History Center

A new history center in the heart of West Grove Borough features a unique connection, understanding, and preservation to an era of Chester County's past. This collection was fostered by local historian, author, and West Grove native, R. Scott Steele.

Steele's collection includes hundreds of objects, manuscripts, and photographs collected over the last 45 years — coupled with an assortment of memories, emotions, and stories showcasing the borough's history. All of the items have either been purchased by Steele himself or donated from other community members. Additionally, the purchase and renovation of the building, which is located at 513 Prospect Avenue, was also undertaken by Steele.

The Chester County Press recently featured an article noting that some of Steele's favorite artifacts include memorabilia from the 1947 robbery of the National Bank of West Grove, and a popcorn machine from the old Roselyn Theater.

Currently, the West Grove Museum is open the first Sunday of each month from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This initiative supports the Appreciate goal in Landscapes3 as it helps to preserve the historic resources and landscapes that define our cultural heritage to inspire the future through tangible connections to our shared past.
