Wildflower Meadow at Hibernia County Park Provides a Pop of Color (and more!)

Summer 2023

Hibernia County Park

Chester County is blooming with the recent re-introduction of a five-acre wildflower and seasonal grass meadow located at Hibernia County Park! This colorful addition represents the county's dedication to preserving and enhancing its many natural landscapes and scenery.

This initiative was led by the Chester County Department of Parks and Preservation's Parks and Trails Manager, Owen Prusack, who notes that the goal of the wildflower and grass meadow is to increase biodiversity and reduce the county's carbon footprint through stormwater runoff. With 12 different species of grasses, forbes, and wildflowers planted, the meadow will also provide benefits to wildlife (both large and small), attract pollinators such as honeybees, and provide aesthetic value to the county and its residents and visitors.

Additionally, this effort is part of a broader initiative spanning across multiple county parks — Springton Manor Farm Park and Warwick County Park included — which collectively feature over 100 acres of wildflower and grass meadows.

As the seasons unfold here in Chester County, so will the various colors of the meadow as they continue to bloom through October. Be sure to stop and take a look next time you're driving by!
