Following Up: Transportation Public Meeting

On December 12 the Chester County Planning Commission (CCPC) hosted a public meeting about the future of the county's transportation network through the Public Transportation Plan Update, as well as the Chester County Trails Master Plan. The meeting was held at Downingtown Borough Hall and via Zoom, welcoming those interested in either, or both plans, as they are connected in more than a few ways.
The meeting was led by CCPC's Multimodal Transportation Planning Division with presentations from Transportation Planner, Alex Sankaran (Public Transportation Plan Update), and Trails Planner, Steve Buck (Trails Master Plan). Brian Styche, the MTP Division's Director and Brian O'Leary, CCPC's Executive Director, provided opening remarks.
The first half of the meeting focused on the Public Transportation Plan Update, highlighting the plan's background information, goals and corresponding objectives and recommendations, next steps in the process, and a group Q&A discussion. Alex explained that the plan's framework includes the system (operations), environment (points of access), and experience (users). He followed with an overview of each goal and its updates.
The second half of the meeting focused on the development and recommendations for the Chester County Trails Master Plan, also highlighting the plan's background information, goals and objectives, process, and a group Q&A discussion. As part of the plan's public engagement process, Steve shared that one of the most successful tools in the process was the public survey, which garnered over 1,350 responses from 73 zip codes and was available in both English and Spanish.
Both plans support the Connect goal in Chester County's Comprehensive Plan, Landscapes3, and are anticipated to be available in early 2024.
