Introduction

In 2020 the Chester County Planning Commission completed an analysis of building square feet added from 2016 through 2019. A total of 228 projects were completed totaling 4,938,216 square feet added during the four year period.

Non-Residential data can vary drastically between years, as it is a small data set where large projects will cause significant changes. Additionally, the timeframe of available data is too short to determine trends. However, both projects and new non-residential building square feet added increased from 2016 through 2018 before decreasing in 2019. The average square feet per project increased in 2019. Industrial and institutional had the highest amount of new square feet added in 2019, while commercial and institutional had the greatest amount of new square feet added between 2016 and 2019.

No municipality saw a significant number of projects in 2019, but West Goshen, Tredyffrin, East Whiteland, and West Whiteland townships had the highest number of non-residential projects from 2016-2019. Tredyffrin, West Goshen, and Sadsbury had the most non-reseidentail building square feet added in 2019. Tredyffrin, West Goshen, and East Whiteland townships had the highest amount of non-residential construction from 2016-2019. In 2019, Honey Brook Township added the most agricultural building square feet, West Goshen the most commercial, Easttown Township the most industrial, and Uwchlan Township the most institutional.
